 ef="https://www.ifimac.uam.es/">IFIMAC</a></p>\n<p>Speaker<strong>:</stron
 g>&nbsp\;<strong>Jorge Olcina</strong>\, Universidad de Alicante\, Alicant
 e\, Spain.</p>\n<p style="text-align: justify\;">FIMAC is proud to announc
e the launch of a new series of colloquia focused on climate change and th
e energy transition. Running alongside the traditional IFIMAC colloquia on
Condensed Matter Physics\, this new initiative shifts the emphasis to the
urgent global challenge of the climate crisis. By focussing on rigorous a
nd accessible science communication\, the series seeks to move beyond the
rushed and often misleading narratives of the news cycle\, offering a plat
form for science-based communication on the climate crisis.</p>\n<p style=
"text-align: justify\;">The first speaker for the Climate Colloquium serie
s will be Professor <strong>Jorge Olcina from the University of Alicante\,
a world-renowned expert on the impacts of climate change</strong>. Prof.
Olcina serves as Full Professor of Regional Geographic Analysis at the Uni
versity of Alicante\, where he teaches courses on Spatial Planning\, Clima
tology\, and Natural Hazards. He is also the Director of the “Cátedra A
guas de Alicante de Cambio Climático” and has numerous distinguished po
sitions\, including President of the Spanish Association of Geography (201
7–2021) and reviewer for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on C
 limate Change (IPCC).</p>\n<p style="text-align: justify\;">The Climate Co
lloquium series builds upon the success of the Transversal Climate Course\
, intitiated by IFIMAC members Daniel Farías and Ferry Prins during the 2
023–24 academic year. Originally designed for undergraduate students\, t
he course gained significant interest\, leading IFIMAC to decide to expand
its reach with this broader initiative. As this series is designed to eng
age the broader public as well\, the colloquia will primarily be held in S
panish\, with exceptions made for presentations by international speakers.
We look forward to welcoming students\, researchers\, and members of the
broader community to join us for this new initiative.</p>\n<p><a href="htt
