te a multimodal treatment consisting in surgery\, radiotherapy and oral ch
emotherapy with Temozolomide (Stupp protocol). Dr. Chiara Bastiancich’s
current research focuses on dissecting the dynamic post-surgical microenvi
ronment (SMe) to identify therapeutic targets and time windows for interve
ntion. By combining advanced imaging\, immunophenotyping\, and localized n
anomedicine-based drug delivery\, her team has shown that transient blood-
brain barrier disruption and pro-tumoral immune activation post-surgery co
ntribute to recurrence. Her preclinical studies demonstrate that pairing l
ocal chemotherapy with systemic immunomodulation delays tumor regrowth and
improves survival. This work paves the way for novel combinatory treatmen
ts that strategically exploit the SMe to prevent GBM relapse.
\n<p styl

(PharmD/PhD/HDR) is a tenured CNRS research fellow at the Institute of Neu
roPhysiopathology (INP\, Marseille) in the Gliomagenesis &amp\; MicroEnvir
onment (GlioME) group. She holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from UCL
ouvain (Belgium) and the University of Angers (France). Her multidisciplin
ary expertise spans pharmaceutical technology\, neuro-oncology\, and immun
ology\, with a strong focus on translational research for malignant brain
tumors. She has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and leads coll
aborative projects across Europe. Her research bridges nanomedicine and tu
mor biology\, aiming to develop innovative\, localized therapies for gliob
lastoma (GBM)\, an aggressive brain tumor with high recurrence rates. Chia
ra has contributed by developing chemotherapeutic hydrogels to be injected
into the post-surgical cavity to prolong survival in clinically relevant
murine models. Her current work investigates how surgery reshapes the brai
n microenvironment and triggers immune responses that contribute to the on
set of recurrence. By combining local drug delivery with systemic immunomo
dulation\, she develops rational\, time-sensitive therapeutic strategies t
o delay relapse.
\n
Hosted by I
