ICN2 in the Media: On flexoelectricity and bone repair

Last month ICN2 researchers revealed how a physical phenomenon at the nanoscale, flexoelectricity, stimulates the biological process of bone self-repair. Their paper, "Flexoelectricity in Bones", was published in Advanced Materials on 19 January. Helped along by an ICN2 press conference held in Barcelona, it has since drawn considerable attention from the media.

Could a new metal nanosponge material eliminate energy wastage in computing and mobile devices?

Currently some 40% of the electrical energy used by computers is dissipated as heat. The ICN2’s Theory and Simulation Group, led by CSIC Research Prof. and ICN2 Director Pablo Ordejón, and Prof. Josep Nogués of the Magnetic Nanostructures Group have lent their expertise to a project led by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona to develop and understand the properties of a new nanomaterial to address this efficiency issue.

NFFA-Europe Infrastructures reaches the 100 projects mark

The NFFA-Europe open access platform has so far approved 103 projects to grant researchers from Europe and beyond access to European infrastructures specialised in different aspects of research at the nanoscale. The ICN2 is among the list of hosts.

ICN2 in the Media: Diari Ara reflects on cyborgs and nanorobots

An article in Ara newspaper reflects on what makes a cyborg a cyborg and considers the far-reaching influence that technology has on human beings. ICREA Research Prof. Victor F. Puntes shares his views on how nanorobots and nanoparticles will change the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as cancer. For him, if humankind were ever to achieve immortality, we would be doomed within five minutes.
