  the gap between the rates of computational screening and experimental rea
 lization of novel materials. Here\, we discuss the development of autonomo
 us platforms for solid-state chemistry\, spanning automated synthesis\, au
 tomated characterization and automated data analysis. We further present t
 he expansion of these capabilities to include non-equilibrium&nbsp\;synthe
 sis\, which enable ultrafast heating and cooling rates\, access to otherwi
 se inaccessible phases\, and on-demand control of kinetic pathways.&nbsp\;
 Concrete examples will be presented in heterogeneous catalysis for CO2 red
 uction and in lithium cathode active materials\, highlighting the impact o
 f non-equilibrium synthesis on energy-relevant materials discovery.</p>\n<
 p><strong>Short bio</strong>: Jose Recatalà Gómez is a Junior Group Lead
 er at the Berkeley Education Alliance for Research in Singapore (BEARS) an
 d a Visiting Scholar at the University of California\, Berkeley.&nbsp\;He
 holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Southampton\, where his re
 search focused on nanoscale thermoelectric chalcogenides.&nbsp\;He was awa
 rded an A*STAR Research Attachment Programme (ARAP) to conduct part of his
  research at the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) in
  Singapore. His research integrates artificial intelligence\, robotics\, a
 nd non-equilibrium solid-state synthesis to discover new energy materials.
