Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) Post-synthesis modification

Our researchers have developed a new technology to do covalent post-synthetic modification (PSM) of Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs). In general PSM of these materials requires long term reactions (1-3 days) and high temperatures. We propose the use of the Spray-Drying (SD) technique to do covalent organic reactions based on the Schiff-base condensation reaction. This is a fast, economic and with high conversion rates reaction.

MOFs are compounds consisting of metal ions or clusters coordinated to organic ligands. A lot of industries sectors are developing MOFs applications as its high rate surface/mass make them interesting in many technical fields such as gas sorption and storage, catalysis, drug delivery, heat exchange and gas separation. Usually MOFs are PSM to taylor their chemical functionality and/or pore surface chemistry
