Third annual Phonons and Fluctuations Workshop a success!

Phonons and Fluctuations 3, held 21 to 24 May 2012, was organised by ICN and the International Network for Thermal Nanosciences and Nanoengineering.

The Workshop drew nearly 70 participants from over a dozen countries.

Description: The 3rd annual Phonons and Fluctuations Workshop was held on 21 to 24 May 2012 in Sant Feliu de Guixols, Spain. The event, organised by ICN and the International Network for Thermal Nanosciences and Nanoengineering, attracted an array of experts from Europe and the US to discuss the following topics:

Statistical PhysicsTheoretical  Approaches to Phonons and FluctuationsExperimental Research in Phonons and FluctuationsPhonons  and their Applications in BiologyConfined PhononsPhonon RadiationNanometrology and OpticsNanometrology and Local ProbesModelling and Nanometrology SoftwareThe Workshop involved 67 participants from thirteen countries (Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Spain, Thailand, the UK and the US). The 4-day programme was opened with a Welcome Reception, given by Prof Dr Clivia Sotomayor Torres (ICN Group Leader and ICREA Research), Dr Sebastian Volz (École Centrale Paris) and Dr Jouni Ahopelto (VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Espoo).
