ICN at BIO 2012 Convention

by Super User

Jordi Reverter, Technology Transfer Manager at ICN, ran a stand at the latest edition of the BIO International Convention, held in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

The annual trade show, known as “The Global Event for Biotechnology”, offers international delegates from the biotech industry a chance to network and attend diverse events.

The Catalan Institute of Nanotechnology (ICN) was part of the Catalan delegation attending the 2012 Bio International Convention, held this week in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. For Jordi Reverter, ICN's Technology Transfer Manager, this marked his fourth appearance at the annual event.

According to Reverter, ICN's appearance at Bio was aimed at increasing public awareness of the Institute, presenting new in-house technologies for licensing, and meeting with biotech companies to develop new science and technology projects.

ICN presented two technologies for licensing: one in the field of renewable energies, and one for drug delivery. The former deals with generation of biogas in anaerobic reactors; and the latter, a new drug delivery system based on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), new, porous materials that can capture, store and release active ingredients in a controlled fashion.

Also present at BIO Boston was EBT Nanotargeting, a newly established start-up from ICN which is a launching new drug for cancer treatment based on gold nanoparticles conjugated with Cisplatin. The Company recently signed a collaborative accord with the Ferrer Group.
