ICN2 signed today the renovation of the SUMA agreement

SUMA programme is the first specific initiative for CERCA Centres aimed to achieving integrated Institutes with a bigger critical mass and scientific potential.

The Institut Catala de Nanociencia i Nanotecnologia (ICN2), the Institute of Catalan Research Centres (CERCA), and the Catalan government funding agency AGAUR are part of the accord signed today whereby the ICN2 will is provided with new competitive funding through the SUMA Programme. The funding awarded on 2013 through this Programme was an important contribution to the merging process of ICN (CERCA) and CIN2 (CSIC) that made ICN2 possible.

The SUMA Programme is designed to consolidate research centres in Catalonia, so that they can reach a critical mass in terms of research staff, facilities and equipment. AGAUR’s awarding of competitive funding to ICN2 is testament to the Catalan government and CSIC’s dedication to the ICN2 initiative.

In January 2014, ICN2 inaugurated its new building in the Bellaterra Campus of the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. The researchers from the former Institutes ICN and CIN2 share now the same workplace and the same administration, conforming a new and highly competitive Institute. The renovation of the SUMA Program formalised today increases the potential of ICN2.
