ICN2 hosts in Barcelona a meeting of the FORESEEN Consortium

The ICN2 Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures (P2N) Group, led by ICREA Research Prof Clivia Sotomayor, hosted this strategic meeting of a network exploring frontiers between optics and radio frequencies at nanoscale. New potential partners were introduced and the next strategic steps for the consortium were discussed.

FORESEEN is a Network of Universities and High-Tech Industries which scope is the exploration of Frontiers between Optics and Radio frequencies Extended by Study of Extreme Electromagnetism at Nanoscale. It aims at creating a European community big enough to be able to assess the European Commission. On July 3, the ICN2 Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures (P2N) Group, led by ICREA Research Professor Clivia Sotomayor, hosted in Barcelona a strategic meeting of the FORESEEN consortium.

The main objective of the network is to create synergies between Universities and large High-Tech Industries. It includes developing joint projects to participate to European initiatives, participating in workshops and information meetings, constructing a European long-term research in electromagnetic engineering from Microwave to Nanoscale, and creating opportunities for talented early-stage researchers. During the meeting new potential partners were introduced to the consortium, and proposal opportunities at the EU-level and the future steps for the consortium were discussed.

FORESEEN is a growing and independent initiative born in 2013 that currently gathers around 20 institutions. Among the work developed at ICN2 in the Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures (P2N) Group, development of nanometrology tools and characterisation of heating properties of devices might be useful to face the consortium’s challenges. This consortium is a new example of the transversal potential of solutions developed at nanoscale.
