Graphene experts meet at Maó during the XXX Trobades Cientifiques de la Mediterrania

Stephan Roche, Group leader and ICREA researcher at ICN2 and European co-leader of Spintronics for the Graphene Flaghip, is among the event organizers. The meeting, held from October 15th-17th, offers a unique environment for collaboration.

A selected group of around 50 scientists joined today in Maó (Menorca Island, Spain), to share state-of-the-art nanoscience and nanotechnology around graphene. The XXX Trobades Cientifiques de la Mediterrania Josep Miquel Vidal, devoted this year to Graphene and Related Materials (Production, Characterization, Applications), are held at the Institut Menorqui d’Estudis. This meeting offers a unique environment for collaboration where synergies and networking opportunities in the European context will flourish during the next three days.

The Trobades have been organized by the Institut Menorqui d’Estudis (IME), the Societat Catalana de Fisica (SCF), the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC) and the Institut Catala de Nanociencia i Nanotecnologia (ICN2). Josefina Salord (IME), Nuria Ferrer (UPC) and Stephan Roche (ICN2) introduced the event as members of the organizing committee. Siegmar Roth, leader of the Research Group on Synthetic Nanostructures at the Max Planck Institute for Solid Satate Research (Germany), offered the first talk.

The present workshop will focus on the current challenges in producing graphene-related materials for today and tomorrow’s applications in reinforced hybrid composites, energy (batteries, supercapacitors, photovoltaic), (bio)sensors, and flexible electronics. Internationally renowned speakers, such as Francesco Bonaccorso (IIT, Italia), Julio Gómez (Avanzare) and Amaia Zurutuza (Graphenea) will participate in the debate. The organizers wish to reinforce previous collaborations and open new cooperation opportunities among the attendees.
