1st Scientific Meeting of BNC-b Students

The UAB Campus hosts the First Scientific Meeting of Students organized by the Barcelona Nanotechnology Cluster – Bellaterra. Over one hundred students participate in the meeting and have the opportunity to share experience and research from different nanoscience areas.

On May 20th-21th, the UAB Campus hosts the ‘1st Scientific Meeting of BNC-b Students’. After the successful previous editions of ‘1st Meeting of ICMAB students’ in 2011, and ‘1st Meeting of ICMAB-ICN-CIN2 students’ in 2013, this time the organization incorporates all the framework of the UAB Research Park: the Barcelona Nanotechnology Cluster – Bellaterra, BNC-b (ICMAB, ICN2, IMB-CNM, MATGAS, UAB, ALBA).

The aim of the meeting is to present the work done by the PhD students of the BNC-b, also promoting the networking between them in an academic and scientific environment. Over one hundred students will participate these two days in the meeting which is also open to master and undergraduate students and, in general, all the scientific community.

The meeting is held in the conference hall of the Science Faculty of the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. The event has started with the welcome speech by the Dean of the Science Faculty, Antoni Méndez. After him, Xavier Obradors, director of ICMAB, Carles Cané, director of IMB-CNM and ICREA Prof Arben Merkoci, from the ICN2 Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group, have stood out that, being part of such an initiative, represents a great opportunity for the students to train for future meetings and to get in touch with scientific fellows. They highlighted the fact that the BNC-b is probably the biggest concentration of talent in this field in the south of Europe.

After introducing the meeting, the students became the main characters of the event with their oral presentations which will be the central part of the meeting today and tomorrow. The two best presentations will be awarded, as well as the two best posters, which are exhibited in the hall. The winner will be chosen by the rest of the attendants. Furthermore, the students will have the opportunity to learn about two success cases: Xavi Marti from IGS research and Santi Sala from Nanomol Technologies will share their experience in starting a spin-off.
