ICN2 hosts the Scientific Workshop HINTBCN

The ICN2 hosted the Scientific Workshop HINTBCN under the umbrella of HINT COST Action MP1202. Over 70 participants including COST members and representatives of different European research institutions participated in the meeting and had the opportunity to share experience and research advances from different areas and focused on the bio-applications of hybrid materials.

HINT (Rational Design of Hybrid Interfaces) is a Research Network, funded by the European COST programme which is the longest-running European framework supporting trans-national cooperation among researchers, engineers and scholars across Europe. On June 8-9 ICN2 hosted this workshop, “Biomedical, Health and Bio-Related applications of Hybrid Materials”, coordinated by Dr. Fernando Novio (ICN2) and Dr. Anna Laromaine (ICMAB-CSIC), to promote exchanges between chemists, physicists, biologists and engineers on the most recent achievements in hybrid materials with bio-applications.

The aim of this meeting was to put in contact different researchers whit complementary investigations of the design, control, and dynamics of hybrid organic-inorganic interfaces focusing on fundamental science and applied research in the field of medicine, environment and health.

The meeting was held in the conference room of the ICN2. The event started with the welcome speech by Dr. Fernando Novio (postdoctoral researcher at ICN2 in the Nanostructured Functional Materials Group), Dr. Anna Laromaine (ICMAB-CSIC) and Dr. Marie-Helene Delville (chair of the MP1202 COST action).

After introducing the workshop, different keynotes talks were presented along this meeting by recognized national researchers such as Dr. Elisabeth Engel (IBEC, Barcelona), Dr. Alejandro Baeza (UCM, Madrid) and Dr. Ibane Abasolo (ICIBBIM-Nanomedicine, Hospital Vall d´Hebrón-Barcelona). The most important part of the HINTBCN workshop corresponded to the 20 oral presentations of experts coming from different European countries. Apart from the oral presentations, two poster sessions showed different pieces of work of close to 30 researchers. The best poster presentation was awarded by the Societat Catalana de Quimica (SCQ) in the closing ceremony of the meeting.
