NanoSpain 2019: The Spanish conference on nanoscience lands in Barcelona

The 16th edition of the NanoSpain Conference, annual appointment for experts in nanoscience and nanotechnologies, will take place at the Parc Científic of Barcelona from 28 to 31 May.

Started in 2004, the NanoSpain 2019 conference series is now a well-established meeting in Spain, which gathers research groups from different universities, institutes and companies in our country that are active in these fields.

Its aim is to strengthen partnerships and foster knowledge exchanges between researchers in nanoscience and nanotechnology, as well as to promote interdisciplinary discussions, not only within Spain but also among different groups from Southern Europe. Great importance is also given to the involvement of companies, to facilitate the transfer of new technologies - developed in laboratory - to the industrial world. New studies and applications will be discussed in a variety of fields, spanning medicine, biotechnology, toxicology, electronics, chemistry, optics and photonics, to mention only a few.

The current edition involves a number of researchers from ICN2. ICREA Prof. Jordi Arbiol (Advanced Electron Nanoscopy group) and ICREA Prof. Víctor Puntes (Inorganic Nanoparticles group) will give keynote speeches on growth mechanisms and local properties of free-standing nanostructures and on the use of metal oxide nanoparticles for cancer immunotherapy, respectively.  Dr María José Esplandiu (Magnetic Nanostructures group), Dr Cesar Moreno (Atomic Manipulation and Spectroscopy group) and Dr Klaas-Jan Tielrooij (Ultrafast Dynamics in Nanoscale Systems group) will participate as invited speakers and seven more talks will be given by senior researchers and PhD students from our institute.

Thematic sessions are also planned, in order to discuss specific research areas and tackle topical problems. Dr Stephan Roche from ICN2 (Theoretical and Computational Nanoscience group) will coordinate the Graphene and 2D Materials session.
