PhD student Peng Xiao receives the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad

by Virginia Greco

Peng Xiao is carrying out his PhD thesis research at the ICN2, in the Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures Group.

The Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad was established by the China Scholarship Council in 2003 to recognise the effort of students who pursue advanced studies in other countries without economic support from the motherland. The recipients are chosen annually based on a record of remarkable accomplishments in any discipline. This prize is considered the highest award given by Chinese government to graduate students studying outside China. Currently, more than 600 awards are made per year.

Peng Xiao has been conferred this recognition for the outstanding trajectory he is following during his PhD Programme at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and at the ICN2, in the Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures Group led by ICREA Prof. Dr Clivia Sotomayor-Torres. The award includes a monetary prize.

Currently Xiao has a Cofund BIST Predoctoral (PREBIST) grant, which is a fellowship for multidisciplinary research to be developed at the centres of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and at associated partner institutions, which provide secondments, training, networking activities and other actions to complement the research activities and professional development of the fellows.

Congratulations on this important achievement!
