The new president of CSIC meets with the directors of the centres in Catalonia

by Virginia Greco

Eloísa del Pino had her first meeting with the directors of all CSIC centres in Catalonia and signed an agreement for the expansion of the Mediterranean Centre for Marine and Environmental Research.

On July 28, Eloísa del Pino, the new president of CSIC, visited the Institute of Marine Sciences of Barcelona (ICM), where she met with the directors of the CSIC centres and institutes in Catalonia, with the aim to learn about their current activities and future challenges. Among them was Prof. Pablo Ordejón, director of the ICN2.

This meeting was one of the first contacts between del Pino and the management representatives of the CSIC centres in Catalonia since she was appointed president on 21 June by the Spanish Council of Ministers. This visit was also the occasion for the signing of an agreement between CSIC and the Barcelona City Council to promote a project to expand the research areas and, specifically, the facilities of the Mediterranean Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CMIMA).

The CSIC, which is Spain's largest public institution dedicated to scientific and technical research, has in Catalonia 14 centres of its own and 3 mixed institutes, jointly owned with other institutions. It also participates in other 4 centres.
