On 15 May, the VIII UAB Teaching Excellence Awards ceremony took place. Dr Marta González, researcher at the ICN2 Thermal Properties of Nanoscale Materials Group and professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), received the individual category award.  This prize recognises her twenty-year career combining research and educational innovation. The jury highlighted her ability to incorporate active methodologies and utilise innovative tools. They also recognised her pioneering role in initiatives related to the application of artificial intelligence to teaching.

Dr Marta González carries out her teaching and research activities at the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science at the UAB. Since 2021, she has also been a researcher at ICN2 within Prof. Javier Rodríguez-Viejo's research group. She began her scientific career at the UAB Nanomaterials and Microsystems Group (GNaM), specialising in the characterisation of advanced materials. She then completed a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellowship at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, focusing on hydrogen storage materials, before returning to the UAB.

In recent years, she has led and contributed to research projects in various fields, including nanocalorimetry, glassy materials, and hydrogen storage. She has also maintained an active teaching role in the Physics, Chemistry and Nanoscience and Nanotechnology degree programmes while promoting European initiatives aimed at encouraging scientific vocations and reducing the gender gap in physics.
