The ICN2 Group Leader will contribute her expertise in nanotechnology applied to healthcare, particularly in the development of new technologies for clinical diagnostics.
Laura M. Lechuga, leader of the ICN2 Nanobiosensors and Bioanalytical Applications (NanoB2A) Group and Full Professor at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), has joined the Expert Committee of Constantes y Vitales. Led by Atresmedia (coordinated by LaSexta) and the AXA Foundation, this initiative focuses on promoting biomedical research and healthcare.
Following the latest expansion of the committee, Constantes y Vitales has welcomed Prof. Lechuga, an internationally renowned expert in the application of nanotechnology to biomedicine. Her research focuses on the development of biosensors for clinical diagnostics and other applications. The NanoB2A team at ICN2 is developing technologies that can rapidly detect certain types of cancer and infectious diseases at an early stage.
Her appointment to the committee, which brings together leading figures from the scientific community, is a significant acknowledgement of her career and the quality of her research. She has received several prestigious awards, including the Juan de la Cierva National Research Award, the Jaume I Award for New Technologies, the Spanish National Nanotechnology Award, and the Lilly Foundation Prize for Biomedical Research. She has also been awarded “Honoris Causa” doctorates by the University of Cádiz and the University of León.
Constantes y Vitales has also highlighted her work in science communication and technology transfer. Her research group has established Eroica Dx, a company dedicated to bringing its nanophotonic biosensor technology into clinical practice. The spin-off is developing rapid diagnostic devices capable of identifying bacterial pathogens and biological markers directly from a small blood sample in under 30 minutes.
