The 9th JPhD Scientific Meeting took place on 12–13 November at ICMAB, on the UAB campus. This conference, which began in 2011 as a small gathering of PhD students, has become a key platform for science communication and networking among researchers from the institutes of the Barcelona Nanocluster-Bellaterra (BNC-b): ICMAB, ICN2, IMB-CNM and UAB.

This year’s programme included oral presentations, poster sessions, workshops and plenary talks. A wide group of ICN2 PhD candidates —Naji Vahedigharehchopogh, Amir Mohammad Ghadiri Ghehi, Gerard Pena, Zhenchuan Tian, Daniel Capolat, Arnau Villalobos, Aleix Carrascull, Athique Ahmed Ali, Mireia Torres, Gabriel de Araújo, Ronny De La Bastida, Flavius Catalin Giurgea, Miquel Madrid, Faiz Ullah and David Llorens— actively participated, showcasing the institute's diverse research areas and emerging talent.

Several ICN2 members also took part in the organising committee, serving as moderators and chairs in the various sessions. These included Aina Galceran, Jorge Martínez Romeral, Belén Pepió, Noel Muñoz and Patricia Aguilar.

Furthermore, the programme featured contributions from other senior ICN2 members:

  • Sonia Ruiz Raga was an invited speaker, delivering the talk “Understanding the degradation mechanisms of halide perovskite solar cells via advanced in-situ studies.” Her presentation focused on her group’s advances in renewable energies, particularly in the field of perovskite solar cells.
  • Sara Martínez de Salinas took part in the round table “Is there life after the PhD?”, which explored the different career paths available to researchers after completing their doctoral studies. This session also featured Dr. Daniel Rueda, former ICN2 researcher and current CTO of NBL.
  • Juan F. Sierra gave the seminar “Ethics and Honesty in Science”, examining key factors related to research integrity and ethical issues in scientific careers.

For another year, JPhD has established itself as a key platform for fostering scientific collaboration and facilitating the exchange of ideas among young and early-career researchers across the UAB campus.
