A degree final project on flexible perovskite solar cells developed at the ICN2 is awarded by UAB

The work presented by Houssam El Mrabet Haje as the final project for his double degree in Physics and Chemistry at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and directed by ICN2 group leader Dr Monica Lira-Cantú, received the 2022 UAB Award for Degree Final Project on Sustainable Development and Global Justice.

The forty winners of this year’s edition of the UAB Award for Degree Final Project on Sustainable Development and Global Justice have been announced and will receive the awards on a ceremony that will take place on 26 May 2022. Among them is Houssam El Mrabet Haje, who obtained his double degree in Physics and Chemistry from the UAB in 2021. His research project on flexible perovskite solar cells and their charge-carrier diffusion under different environmental conditions was developed at the ICN2 with the tutorship of Dr Monica Lira-Cantú, leader of the Nanostructured Materials for Photovoltaic Energy Group.

Organised by the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS) with the support of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Barcelona City Council for the 5th consecutive year, this Award aims to promote interest in research about sustainable development and global justice within the framework of the Degree Final Project, which Bachelor’s and Master’s students have to complete in order to obtain their degree. The participation is open to candidates from all university studies.

Of the 83 applications submitted this year, the evaluation committee selected 40 projects, making this edition the one with the most award-winning entries to date. At the awards ceremony the winners will be asked to shortly explain why their work contributes to sustainable development and/or global justice and will receive a diploma and a small gift. In addition, out of these 40 awardees, a best project for each of the main four areas of knowledge has been selected to receive an additional prize of €250. These four winners will be announced at the ceremony.

The evaluation committee included the Secretary General of the UAB, the director of the FAS, members of the UAB teaching staff from different faculties and of the FAS technical staff.
