Dr Ramon Garcia-Cortadella receives the 2022 Carbon Journal Prize for his PhD thesis

by Virginia Greco

He obtained his PhD from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB) defending a thesis on graphene-based neural interfaces, which he developed working under the supervision of ICN2 group leader Prof. José A. Garrido and of Dr Anton Guimerà, researcher at the IMB-CNM.

Dr Ramon Garcia-Cortadella, former UAB and ICN2 doctoral student, has been awarded the 2022 Carbon Journal Prize for “an outstanding Ph.D. thesis in carbon materials science and technology”. He got his PhD in July 2021, after defending a thesis on high-bandwidth graphene neural interfaces. This research was carried out under the tutorship of ICREA Prof. José A. Garrido, ICN2 deputy director and leader of the Advanced Electronic Materials and Devices Group, and of Dr Anton Guimerà, researcher at the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM-CSIC).

The prize that Dr Garcia-Cortadella received includes a $1000 USD grant to attend a scientific conference of his choice. He has also been invited to be part of Carbon’s extended Advisory board for three years and to write a review or publish an article in Carbon. Shared in Open Access, it will be advertised on the Elsevier media channels.

Carbon is an international multidisciplinary journal meant for sharing scientific advances in the field of carbon materials, including low-dimensional carbon-based nanostructures. The journal reports new relevant findings related to the formation, structure, properties, behaviours, and technological applications of carbons, which are a broad class of ordered or disordered solid phases composed primarily of elemental carbon.

Congratulations Ramon on this great achievement!
