Knowledge only grows when it is shared.

At ICN2, Open Science is a firm commitment to transparency, accessibility and societal impact. We believe that scientific knowledge should be as open as possible — available to researchers, institutions and citizens — and that the way we conduct, share and preserve research is as important as the results themselves.

Our Open Science approach spans the full research lifecycle: from how we manage and publish data, to how we communicate results, collaborate across disciplines and align with national and European standards.

Portal iMarina / iPublic

The iMarina Scientific Portal (iPublic) provides easy access to the scientific output of ICN2 research groups and researchers, helping to promote knowledge transfer and transparency.

Open Access Publications

ICN2 promotes immediate open access to scientific publications whenever possible. In line with Spain's Law of Science (17/2022), researchers at public institutions or funded mainly by public sources are required to deposit accepted manuscripts in open-access repositories within a maximum of six months of publication.

We support compliance with national and European mandates by providing guidance on journal policies, embargo periods and funder requirements, and by promoting open publishing platforms such as Zenodo and Open Research Europe.

Open Data & Datasets

ICN2 implements FAIR data management — Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable — across the full research lifecycle. Datasets are assigned DOIs, enriched with metadata and published through CORA.RDR, Catalonia's federated open data repository.

Many funding agencies require a Data Management Plan (DMP) from the outset of a project. A FAIR-aligned DMP defines how data will be collected, processed, shared and preserved during and beyond the project.

Explore ICN2's published datasets and open research outputs in our public repository. All datasets are assigned DOIs and aligned with FAIR principles.

Open Research

Open Research at ICN2 encourages early and broad sharing of research processes and outputs: preregistration, registered reports, preprints and open software. We promote open and reusable code as a cornerstone of reproducible research, and encourage open licensing and clear documentation for all software developed at the centre.

ICN2 actively fosters collaboration within and beyond academia, supporting citizen science initiatives and co-creation with end users, hospitals and industry partners

Strategy & Policies

ICN2's Open Science strategy aligns with Spain's National Open Science Strategy (ENCA 2023–2027) and EU recommendations, and is progressively adopting responsible research assessment principles (DORA and CoARA).

Three codes of conduct frame our practice: the ICN2 Code of Conduct in Research, the CERCA Ethical Code, and the ALLEA European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity. Together they establish our commitments to transparent publication, FAIR data access and open collaboration.

The ICN2 Open Science Committee — established in 2026 — ensures these principles are applied consistently across research and management.
