Opening the doors of research to outstanding students
Crazy about Physics is a course co-coordinated by ICN2 and IFAE within the Bojos per la Ciència programme of the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera. It is designed for first-year bachillerato students with a particular interest and talent for physics, offering them a year of sessions at some of Catalonia's leading research centres and facilities.
Over the course of the programme, participants visit and work alongside researchers at ICN2, IFAE, ICMAB, ICFO, UAB, UB, ICE and ALBA Synchrotron. Each session is built around hands-on experience that reflects how research actually works, spanning particle physics, nanotechnology, photonics, materials science, astronomy and microscopy.
ICN2 and IFAE launched the first edition of Crazy about Physics in 2016 as part of the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera's commitment to bringing science closer to young talent. Since then, the programme has run every year, reaching new cohorts of students and expanding its network of participating institutions.
Each year, around 25 students take part in more than ten sessions across the partner centres. The programme closes with a ceremony that brings together participants, researchers and coordinators, marking the end of a year spent exploring what it means to do science at the frontier of knowledge.
