Abstract: Creativity is often defined as the power to imagine what does not yet exist and to bring something genuinely new into the world. But is this still a uniquely human gift, or is it becoming something that algorithms can imitate, scale, and perhaps one day rival?
Can creativity itself be measured? Can we meaningfully assess the creative force of a scientist, a research group, or even an entire research institute? And as artificial intelligence becomes ever more powerful, should we begin to ask whether machines may one day appear “more human than humans” in the way they generate ideas, solve problems, and reshape knowledge?
Addressed to all curious spirits of ICN2, this talk opens a window onto the fascinating and unsettling questions that creativity now raises for science and innovation. It is an invitation to debate how excellence can be sustained in a research institute like ICN2 within fast-changing scientific, technological, and political ecosystems. The central challenge is clear: how do we harness AI as a powerful ally without eroding the irreducibly human ability to take intellectual risks, break conceptual boundaries, and create something genuinely new?
