Paperdrop is among the spin offs selected to be accelerated by EMPENTA

by Àlex Argemí

EMPENTA is the acceleration and support program for technology-based companies promoted by ACCIÓ (Catalan Government) and led by ESADE and ESADECREAPOLIS. In its seventh edition over 130 projects have been registered, doubling the numbers of the previous edition.

The seventh edition of EMPENTA has selected ten projects with great potential to participate in an acceleration program. Over the next six months 30 mentors and 10 speakers will collaborate with the entrepreneurs behind these projects to help them cohere the team, reach the market and get funding.

Thanks to the support of ACCIÓ, seven editions of the successful ESADECREAPOLIS program have already been carried out. This edition stands out for the quality of the projects, most of which are linked to a patent developed in research centers. The average age of the entrepreneurs is around 33 years and they have a complete technical training, business vision and experience in their respective areas.

Paperdrop Diagnostics S.L. is a young spinoff company that has developed a low-cost and easy-to-use device to identify drug-induced injuries. The technology of this new company is based on research carried out by the Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group, led by ICREA Prof. Arben Merkoçi at the ICN2.

Many population studies have shown that the occurrence of adverse drug reactions is significant. The technology developed by Paperdrop Diagnostics S.L. is based on lateral flow immunoassays, similar to a pregnancy test, which are being optimised to detect six key biomarkers in the detection of drug-induced kidney and liver injuries and systemic inflammatory response syndrome.
