ICN2 is involved in one of the new RIS3CAT Communities

by Àlex Argemí

ICN2 is involved in the Industries of the Future RIS3CAT Community through the Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures Group and the Force Probe Microscopy and Surface Nanoengineering Group. The six new RIS3CAT communities promoted by the Catalan Government through ACCIÓ involve the allocation of 24 million € to impulse 32 innovation and R&D macroprojects with ERDF funds.

The Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government) recently announced the allocation of 24 million € to impulse 32 innovation and R&D macroprojects. These resources, managed through ACCIÓ, will promote the six new RIS3CAT communities, which group 182 companies, technology centers, universities and R&D agents, involving 1,600 professionals.

The announced grants will facilitate the investment of over 73.7 million euros in 32 projects with a high impact on the Catalan economy. The budget for the RIS3CAT communities comes from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union.

Two ICN2 Groups are involved in the Industries of the Future Community (IdF), the Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures Group, led by ICREA Prof. Clivia M. Sotomayor Torres, and the Force Probe Microscopy and Surface Nanoengineering Group, led by Prof. Jordi Fraxedas. Both Groups participate in the PLASTFUN (COMRDI16-1-0018) project funded by ERDF through the Programa Operatiu de Catalunya 2014-2020. The ICN2 is thus part of the 32 companies and 13 entities, including universities and research centers as well as the the Eurecat technology center, which will be part of the RIS3CAT IdF community.

With a budget of 16.5 million € the IdF community aims to consolidate a leading innovation pole in efficient and sustainable manufacturing in Catalonia. It will be achieved through a network of capacities and pilot plants aimed at strengthening industrial R&D within the manufacturing value chain.
