The Catalan Government, in Collaboration with ICN2, Launches the InnoFAB Foundation to Establish a State-of-the-art Semiconductor Technology Centre
The new organisation will count on ICN2 as a key partner, contributing its expertise in cutting-edge research and innovation to the development of the project.
The InnoFAB initiative continues to make significant progress towards its goal of establishing a state-of-the-art centre for chip design, prototyping and production in Catalonia. Following its official launch by the Government of Catalonia last April, the InnoFAB Foundation has now been established to manage and coordinate the project's development in the coming years.
With this new structure in place, InnoFAB is moving forward with its mission to establish Catalonia as a leader in the advanced semiconductor industry at both the European and global levels, with strong potential applications across diverse sectors such as electronics, biomedicine, and energy.
The governance of the Foundation will include a board of trustees, which will be responsible for overseeing and implementing the project. This board will comprise the Catalan Ministers for Research and Universities, Economy and Finance, Presidency, and Business and Labour. In addition, three leading figures in scientific and technological fields, proposed by ICN2, will join the board. ICN2, which has led the technical coordination of the project through its Vice-Director, ICREA Prof. Jose A. Garrido, will continue to play a key role by providing its vision and expertise as a leading research centre specialising in innovation and advanced technologies.
With a budget of €400 million, InnoFAB is set to become a true driver of Catalonia’s tech ecosystem. Alongside the planned chip innovation centre at Parc de l’Alba in Cerdanyola del Vallès, InnoFAB will foster an environment in which high-tech companies can collaborate with leading institutions, boosting the connection between science and industry while also attracting talent and investment.
