Cambio climático en España: evidencias, adaptación y comunicación
Friday 14 February 2025, 12:00pm
Sala Polivalente, Plaza Mayor, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid
IFIMAC-UAM Climate Colloquium Organised by IFIMAC
Speaker: Jorge Olcina, Universidad de Alicante, Alicante, Spain.
FIMAC is proud to announce the launch of a new series of colloquia focused on climate change and the energy transition. Running alongside the traditional IFIMAC colloquia on Condensed Matter Physics, this new initiative shifts the emphasis to the urgent global challenge of the climate crisis. By focussing on rigorous and accessible science communication, the series seeks to move beyond the rushed and often misleading narratives of the news cycle, offering a platform for science-based communication on the climate crisis.
The first speaker for the Climate Colloquium series will be Professor Jorge Olcina from the University of Alicante, a world-renowned expert on the impacts of climate change. Prof. Olcina serves as Full Professor of Regional Geographic Analysis at the University of Alicante, where he teaches courses on Spatial Planning, Climatology, and Natural Hazards. He is also the Director of the “Cátedra Aguas de Alicante de Cambio Climático” and has numerous distinguished positions, including President of the Spanish Association of Geography (2017–2021) and reviewer for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
The Climate Colloquium series builds upon the success of the Transversal Climate Course, intitiated by IFIMAC members Daniel Farías and Ferry Prins during the 2023–24 academic year. Originally designed for undergraduate students, the course gained significant interest, leading IFIMAC to decide to expand its reach with this broader initiative. As this series is designed to engage the broader public as well, the colloquia will primarily be held in Spanish, with exceptions made for presentations by international speakers. We look forward to welcoming students, researchers, and members of the broader community to join us for this new initiative.
