The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology has awarded three second-phase grants to collaborative projects developed jointly by BIST member institutions. The ICN2's participation in two of the three successful projects is led by ICREA Prof. Jose Antonio Garrido and ICREA Prof. Jordi Arbiol.
The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) has announced the winners of the second phase of its inaugural BIST Ignite programme, with the ICN2 involved in two of the three projects continuing to receive funding into 2018.
ICREA Prof. Jose Antonio Garrido and leader of the ICN2 Advanced Electronic Materials and Devices Group will be participating in the THEIA project, alongside prominent researchers from the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) and the Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE). This project combines the complementary expertise of these three BIST member institutions to advance the design of innovative retinal prosthesis.
Meanwhile, ICREA Prof. Jordi Arbiol and leader of the ICN2 Advanced Electron Nanoscopy Group will continue to collaborate with the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) for the project InWOC, which aims to tackle as yet unresolved questions in water splitting and solar fuels. Again, only through close collaboration between disciplines can the conversion of solar energy into a chemical fuel be made a sustainable reality.
The third project, GenStorm, aimed at developing an integrated approach to the visualisation and modelling of how genes work, is led by researchers at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona).
