by Francisco Paños

Fotciencia is a science photography contest organized by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and the CSIC. Marcos Rosado is one of the winners of the Fotciencia17 “micro” category.

Fotciencia has just announced the winners of its seventeenth edition. The science photography contest, organized by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and the CSIC, aims to bring science and technology closer to people through aesthetically attractive images accompanied by a commentary explaining their scientific value.

Marcos Rosado, Specialist Technician of the ICN2 Electron Microscopy Unit, is the main author of the image Silicon nanoplankton, one of the two images winning the “micro” category of the contest. Taken from a mesocosm heating and acidification experiment in the Mediterranean Sea, the picture allows scientists to look for the impact of climate change on silicon nanoplankton, finding out whether the structure of the nanoplankton is damaged or remains intact.

Have a look at the other selected images of Fotciencia and do not forget to congratulate Marcos Rosado if you have the occasion!
