Watch it on YouTube! Prof. Peter Bøggild, from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), offered on April 24 a webinar entitled “Graphene on the edge: disorder, chemistry and band engineering in vdW heterostructures”. It was hosted by ICREA Prof. Aitor Mugarza, Group Leader of the ICN2 Atomic Manipulation and Spectrosocpy Group.
One of most intriguing and unique aspects of graphene is how deeply the behavior can be modified through shaping and patterning. The high sensitivity to atomic scale structure is a doubly edged sword, however, making defect engineering very challenging, and often with results that disappoint compared to theoretical predictions. In this webinar, Prof. Peter Bøggild, from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), discussed three examples of how seemingly minor differences in edge-structure, edge-chemistry and encapsulation can have a surprising impact on the transport properties, with emphasis on his group’s recent realisation of lithographic bandgap engineering of graphene on a 10 nm scale.
The event was hosted by ICREA Prof. Aitor Mugarza, Group Leader of the ICN2 Atomic Manipulation and Spectrosocpy Group, who managed the questions launched to the speaker in a very interactive discussion.
