BIST is involved in a new education centre in Barcelona with a special focus on science

by Oriol Roig

The new education centre, promoted by the Generalitat de Catalunya with support from BIST and its centers, will open for the next course in the centre of Barcelona. Its education curriculum will be focused on promoting the study of scientific disciplines among young students from age 12 to 18.

The district of Eixample in Barcelona will have a new educative centre starting from next year's course: the Angeleta Ferrer Institute for teenagers, from age 12 to 18. This new centre is aimed at driving scientific vocations amongst youngsters. To create this institute, the Education Department of the Catalan Government has worked closely with the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST).

The Angeleta Ferrer Institute will open its doors for the course 2021/2022, with a special focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) studies. Within this framework, one of its main interests will be gender equality in the scientific-technological areas, in order to increase women's visibility in these disciplines.

The building spaces will be re-designed to be multi-functional and offer multiple didactic approaches to educators. The BIST centres will collaborate in some of the educational contents, offering a safe environment to test dissemination materials as well as an open door for researchers to explore the possibilities of a teaching career.
