'Picture a Scientist': How to make science more diverse and equitable

by Virginia Greco

The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) is organising an online screening of the documentary “Picture a Scientist”, as well as a debate around diversity and equal opportunities in science and research.

Registrations are open to an online screening of the documentary “Picture a Scientist”, organized by the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) exclusively for the members of its centres. This film is a journey into the lives of a few female researchers who had to face many challenges and to deal with discredit and harassment while pursuing their scientific careers. It also provides new perspectives on how to make science more diverse, equitable and open to all.

On March 11, at 4pm, a debate will be held by representatives of the BIST centres about sexual harassment (with the vast majority consisting of subtle slights and micro-aggressions), underestimation of female scientists’ work, the pressure many women researchers feel not to take family leave, and so on. All the attendees will be able to participate in the debate.

After registering you will receive by email the username and password to access the online screening, as well as the link to join the debate to be held on Zoom platform.
