ICN2 signs the DORA declaration

by Virginia Greco

The Declaration on Research Assessment is a worldwide initiative aiming at improving practices and procedures of research assessment.

Last week the ICN2 signed the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), a worldwide initiative that recognises the need to improve the ways in which the outputs of scholarly research are evaluated. First developed in 2021, it has become a worldwide initiative covering all scholarly disciplines and all key stakeholders including funders, publishers, professional societies, institutions, and researchers.

DORA aims to raise awareness about new tools and processes in research assessment and the responsible use of metrics; to facilitate implementation of new policies and practices for hiring, promotion, and funding decisions; to spread research assessment reform; and to call for broader representation of researchers in the design of assessment practices that directly address the structural inequalities in academia.
