Madrid hosts Quantum Matter International Conference: A global forum for the advancement of quantum materials and technologies

by Àlex Argemí

The benchmark event will bring together leading figures from the scientific and business world to discuss the possibilities and applications of quantum materials, catalysing new ideas and collaborations in a flourishing field. Madrid's Pablo VI Space will host the Quantum Matter International Conference 2023 from 23rd to 25th May. The event has been made possible thanks to the joint effort of the organisers DIPC, ICN2, CSIC and Phantoms Foundation, with the support of QTEP-CSIC, BIST, ICREA and Quantum Spain.

In a world increasingly shaped by technological advancements, quantum materials represent a new frontier, with the potential to transform various industries and address global challenges. From computing to communications, medicine and energy, quantum phenomena could redefine our capabilities and open unexplored paths. The Quantum Matter International Conference 2023 stands as a benchmark in this time of rapid advancements, providing a global forum for exchange and debate.

The third edition of this meeting seeks to connect professionals, researchers, and opinion leaders involved in information science and materials. The programme includes sessions on various topics, round tables, and almost a full day focused on the industrial applications of quantum materials at the so-called Industrial Forum. Anticipating future trends, the conference will serve as a breeding ground for collaborations and innovations in the development of cutting-edge technologies and emerging materials.

The event has been made possible thanks to the joint effort of the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Phantoms Foundation. These organisations, committed to the development and promotion of science and technology, collaborate to foster research and provide an enriching and constructive environment in the field of quantum materials and beyond.

To support the event, several key entities in the sector have joined as partners, including QTEP-CSIC, BIST, ICREA, and Quantum Spain. Their role is central due to their significant influence on different aspects of training, research, and innovation in quantum devices, as well as their commitment to creating a robust quantum computing infrastructure in Spain.

The conference will feature a long list of high-level speakers in the field, including Jerry Chow from IBM, Daniel Loss from the University of Basel, Mikhail Lukin from Harvard University, Zlatko Minev from IBM Quantum Research, Chetan Nayak from Microsoft Research, Ana Maria Rey from the University of Colorado, Pedram Roushan from Google Inc and Pascale Senellart-Mardon from C2N-CNRS-Université Paris Saclay. They will all share their knowledge, visions and latest research at the event.

The Quantum Matter International Conference 2023 is more than an event; it is a window onto advances and trends in quantum materials. Throughout the conference, interviews with key personalities will be conducted, to be broadcast through the YouTube channel of the organising entities (including ICN2 YouTube channel), thereby providing even broader access to the most recent discoveries and developments in this exciting field.
