He presented his work on 'Clip-off Chemistry' in the 'Chemistry of Porous Materials' session.

On 25-29 June, the XXXIX Biennial of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry took place in Zaragoza. The Local Organizing Committee and the Scientific Committee, in collaboration with the different Specialized Groups of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (SRSC) put together a very stimulating programme of talks and poster sessions, addressing a variety of topics of interest not only for the scientific community working in the field of Chemistry and other related sciences, but also for the productive and private sector.

Dr Jorge Albalad Alcalá, a postdoctoral researcher in the Supramolecular NanoChemistry and Materials Group, presented in a flash talk his work titled ‘Clip-Off Chemistry as a Synthetic Tool towards Unprecedented Reticular and Molecular Materials’. He was awarded the Best Flash Presentation Award in the session dedicated to the ‘Chemistry of Porous Materials’.

Clip-Off Chemistry is an innovative synthetic strategy introduced by the Supramolecular NanoChemistry and Materials Group, led by Prof. Daniel Maspoch, that selectively cleaves covalent bonds in reticular materials and discrete entities like metal-organic polyhedra (MOPs). It allows for the isolation of specific structural domains, leading to the rapid synthesis of new families of extended materials. Recent advancements include the use of alkene-tagged MOPs as precursors, enabling the production of diverse metal-organic clusters and complexes with exceptional chemical purity. Clip-Off Chemistry presents an efficient alternative to traditional direct syntheses.
