Prof. María Escudero Escribano Receives the "María Teresa Toral" National Research Award for Chemical Sciences and Technologies

The ICN2 researcher is recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities for her outstanding work on electrochemical processes and advanced materials for clean and sustainable energy conversion.

ICREA Prof. María Escudero Escribano, leader of ICN2 Nanoelectrocatalysis and Sustainable Chemistry Group, has been awarded the prestigious “María Teresa Toral” Award for Chemical Sciences and Technologies. The prize, which is part of the 2024 Spanish National Research Awards for young researchers, recognises her contribution to the field of chemistry.

The researcher has been honoured for her leadership and innovative research into electrochemical processes and the design of new advanced materials at the atomic level. Her achievements have led to the development of scientific and technological solutions for converting renewable electricity into green fuels such as hydrogen as well as liquid fuels for sustainable aviation and maritime transportation applications.

Spanish Science Minister Diana Morant highlighted the great talent of all the winners, whose "excellent science contributes not only to the progress and well-being of society but also to the strengthening of the country". These are the most relevant scientific research awards in Spain.

Prof. Maria Escudero Escribano is also a member of the Young Academy of Spain, which was founded to promote scientific excellence among young researchers, support scientists from different disciplines and encourage interdisciplinary exchanges.
