An ICN2 EU-funded project called ATOMISTIC (2023-2028) aims to investigate methodologies for efficiently triggering and converting methane, the main component of natural gas, into methanol. The leader of this initiative is ICREA Prof. María Escudero Escribano, head of the NanoElectrocatalysis and Sustainable Chemistry Group.

'Research Features' recently published an article that disseminates one of the latest research results published in the 'Chemical Engineering Journal' focusing on a new smart window concept based on paraffin-polymer composites. This technology was patented in 2022-2023 by some members of the Nanostructured Functional Materials group, led by Daniel Ruiz-Molina with UAB Associate Professor, Jordi Hernando.

A collaboration between researchers from ICN2 and the Universities of Edinburgh and Manchester in the UK describes the results of the first-in-human clinical exposure study involving the inhalation of thin graphene oxide nanosheets. The study has been published in the journal ‘Nature Nanotechnology’.

A recent study, led by Klaas-Jan Tielrooij, who heads the Ultrafast Dynamics in Nanoscale Systems Group, has been published in the journal 'Science Advances'. This work provides new insights into electron-phonon interactions occurring within bilayer graphene. The majority of the research was conducted at ICN2 with worldwide collaboration.
