Nanotechnologies for better health at the next Graphene Connect workshop

by Virginia Greco

Dr Cinzia Spinato, Graphene Flagship Business Developer at the ICN2, and Nadia Pons, Head of Innovation at the Medical Association of Barcelona, talk about the Graphene Connect on MedTech and Diagnostic Technologies workshop, which will take place in November in Barcelona. For the first time, entrepreneurs in this field will be given the opportunity to pitch their projects at the Health Investment Forum.

Graphene technologies hold the potentiality to strongly impact the medical field. The impressive properties of this material – which are excellent conductivity, high sensitivity and remarkable flexibility, to mention some ─ could be taken advantage of in a variety of applications to diagnostics, biotechnology, medical sensors and prostheses development.

The Graphene Flagship, the Medical Association of Barcelona (COMB) and the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) are co-organizing a workshop of the Graphene Connect series dedicated to MedTech and Diagnostic Technologies, which will take place on 6th November in Barcelona, Spain.

The intent of the Graphene Connect events is to bring together researchers, industrial representatives and entrepreneurs to facilitate the transfer of graphene technologies to industry and the creation of collaborative innovation projects, within and outside the Graphene Flagship Consortium.

At this Graphene Connect on MedTech and Diagnostic Technologies event, stakeholders from the academic, industrial and medical area will have the occasion to present their perspective and to discuss the opportunities and challenges of graphene-based technologies for better health.

This event, for the first time in the Graphene Connect series, will also be followed by the Graphene for Health Investment Forum, in which entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to pitch their projects to the medical community and potential investors. (Find here the call for projects.)

The organization of this unique event is coordinated by Dr Cinzia Spinato, Graphene Flagship Business Developer at the ICN2, and Nadia Pons, Head of Innovation at the Medical Association of Barcelona. In this interview by the Graphene Flagship Press Team, Dr Spinato and Pons explain in more details the purpose of the Graphene Connect on MedTech and Diagnostic Technologies workshop and of the Investment Forum and provide their vision of the potential applications of graphene technology to the medical field.
