Students of the Summer Campus on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology visited the ICN2

About 20 students from the Nanoscience and Nanotechnology module of the Summer Campus on Science and Technology visited the ICN2 on July the 1st. The Campus is organized by Consorci d’Educació in collaboration with Ajuntament de Barcelona and different Catalan universities and entities.

Consorci d’Educació, together with Ajuntament de Barcelona, organises for the first time a Summer Campus on Science and Technology in collaboration with UAB, UB, UPC, Fundació CIM and FabCafe. The aim of the campus, which is part of the initiative Exit, is to offer high school students six modules about scientific and technological topics to improve and extend their knowledge in these fields.

One of the offered modules runs about Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. During the course the students will be introduced in the nanoworld: on one hand, their will acquire the basic concepts about nanoscience and, on the other hand, they will discover nanotechnology and its applications.

On July 1st, and as an activity of this module, about 20 students visited the ICN2 with Xavier Borrisé, technician from the Core Research Support Facilities Division and coordinator of the course. The visit was led by the Marketing and Communication Department and consisted in an introduction about what is nano and what researchers do in our institute followed by a visit to the main facilities and experimental demonstrations about phenomena that take place at the nanoscale.

The aim of the visit was to encourage students to start a scientific career by discovering the real role of scientists working in fields related with the nanoworld or, at least, raise their interest on a subject affecting society.
