Vote for our brain graphene-based devices!

by Àlex Argemí

La Vanguardia has selected the brain-computer interfaces designed by the ICN2 and IMB-CNM-CSIC, with a long list of close collaborators, among the candidates to win its prestigious award Vanguardia de la Ciencia. Help us disseminate the fight against epilepsy, migraine or brain damage with nanotechnology. The winner will be one of the 8 candidates that will be selected through popular vote.

ICREA research Prof. Jose A. Garrido, Group Leader of the ICN2 Advanced Electronic Materials and Devices Group, and Dr. Anton Guimerà-Brunet, Research Engineer at the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona IMB-CNM-CSIC and CIBERbbn, are heading the candidature about brain graphene-based devices to win the prestigious Vanguardia de la Ciencia award. This prize is a joint initiative of the Godó Group and the Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera. Candidates to win it are chosen based on research excellence and affiliation with a Spanish institution. It was established in 2011 to give more visibility to scientists in Spain and seeks to make scientific breakthroughs as popular as those achieved by athletes and musicians.

Vote for the brain graphene-based devices!

This research to fight against epilepsy, migraine or brain damage with nanotechnology stated a long while ago and with time became an icon of the Graphene Flagship, the main theme of projects such as BrainCom, led by the ICN2, and more recently a spin-off company that will bring this innovative solution closer to its clinical application. With a fast growing impact in research and society, the brain-computer interfaces that will allow new therapeutic approaches to brain diseases have a chance to win this prestigious award.

It is the third time in four years that the ICN2 is nominated to the Vanguardia de la Ciencia Awards. Last year the nanoporous graphene reached the podium with a third position. Would you help us increasing the dissemination of this exciting research by giving your vote for the brain graphene-based devices?

The newspaper readers are who will vote for their favourite candidate through the La Vanguardia website. Among the candidates are issues related with genetics, astronomy, cancer or degenerative diseases. All researches are excellent. Nevertheless, the research on nanoporous graphene led by the ICN2 deserves a chance to win.
