by Àlex Argemí

The ICN2 Equal Opportunities and Diversity Committee successfully launched another enlightening LeaderSHE Talks series. Prof. Rosa Menéndez, a prominent figure in the world of science, shared her insights, captivating a full Seminar Room.

ICN2 was abuzz with enthusiasm and anticipation on Tuesday, 31st October 2023, as we proudly hosted the first in the new series of LeaderSHE Talks. The Seminar Room witnessed a full house of attendees, eager to gain insights from our esteemed guest speaker.

Prof. Rosa Menéndez, with her illustrious credentials as a PhD in Chemistry, CSIC Research Professor, and Former CSIC President (2017-2022), graced the occasion with her profound experiences and knowledge. Her journey, deeply rooted in the world of carbon-based materials, clean coal and oil technologies, and the applications of graphene in biomedicine and energy storage, has always been an inspiration to many. Beyond her research, Prof. Menéndez's dedication to gender equality in science is commendable. She has been an active force behind several initiatives, including her role as the president of the CSIC Women and Science Commission and as a promoter of the Margarita Salas Foundation.

The event began with a heartfelt introduction from the director of ICN2, Prof. Pablo Ordejón. The depth of the professional bond between Prof. Ordejón and Prof. Menéndez was palpable, reflecting years of collaboration between ICN2 and CSIC.

The LeaderSHE Talks, an initiative by the ICN2 Equal Opportunities and Diversity Committee, aims to shine a light on women who have paved the way in various professional fields. This edition of the talk was yet another testament to the Committee's commitment to fostering an environment of inclusivity, diversity, and empowerment.

For those who could not be a part of this enriching experience, we are excited to announce that a video recording of the talk will soon be available on the ICN2 YouTube Channel. Stay tuned: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLav_yj0i6GkxQvIZWM8_RAPIIJFHlGHTS
