#Científiques 2025: ICN2 Women Inspiring Future Generations
A new edition of the #Científiques initiative was held this year, once again with the participation of several female researchers from ICN2.
In the context of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the 11th February, ICN2 participated in the seventh edition of #Científiques (formerly known as #100tífiques), a programme led by the Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i la Innovació (FCRI) and the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST). The aim of this initiative is to highlight the contribution of women in various fields of science and technology and to provide young people with relatable role models. To achieve this, activities are organised with school students, with the participation of many research organisations.
After the traditional meet-up on 5 February at the Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona (PRBB), on 11 February the scientists visited different primary schools in Catalonia to share their career paths and carry out interactive activities.
In this 2025 edition, nine ICN2 researchers joined the programme: Belén Pepió Tàrrega, Sara Navarro Rodríguez, Marianna Sledzinska, Sara Pugliese, Roberta Farris, Fanny Baumann, Patricia Aguilar Merino, Catalina Coll, and Rosa M. González Gil.
Where do the name and hashtag #científiques come from?
When the programme was first launched in 2019, the challenge was to find at least 100 female researchers from BIST centers willing to participate. However, the original name, #100tífiques, had to be updated to #científiques because reaching that target turned out to be easier than expected. Now, seven years later, the initiative has expanded significantly, with 610 researchers from various scientific and technological fields visiting 502 schools to engage young students.
From ICN2, we hope #Científiques will continue thriving and inspiring future generations to follow in their footsteps in science and technology.
