NanoEduca Ends After 10 Years of Promoting Nanoscience and Nanotechnology

by Chema Arcos

This outreach initiative, co-organised by ICN2, concluded its last edition with a major event at the University of Barcelona.

On 1 April, the auditorium of the University of Barcelona (UB) hosted the final event of NanoEduca 2024-2025, an educational initiative aimed at promoting knowledge of nanoscience and nanotechnology among high school students. This year’s programme, which will be the last, was organised by ICN2, the UAB and the UB - through CCiTUB and IDP – and involved around 20 Catalan high schools during the 2024-2025 academic year.

During the closing event, various talks and round tables were held to highlight the importance of scientific outreach and the remarkable success that NanoEduca has achieved over the last 10 years. ICN2 was represented by Ana de la Osa and Chema Arcos from the Marketing, Communication and Fundraising Department. In one of the sessions, Chema Arcos interviewed Esteve Ribas, a PhD student in the ICN2 Atomic Manipulation and Spectroscopy Group, who shared his experiences as a researcher and nanoscience student with the students present.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the announcement of the winners and finalists of a student video contest on nanoscience and nanotechnology. All the projects presented by the students demonstrated exceptional quality and scientific rigour.

At ICN2 we are thrilled to celebrate the great success of this initiative. We also want to highlight that, although NanoEduca has come to an end, many outreach resources on nanoscience and nanotechnology are still available on its website for different types of audiences, including the online course NanoEduca Virtual.
