ICN2 Seminar Room, Campus UAB
ICN2 LeaderSHE Talks - TALKS BY WOMEN WHO LEAD THE WAY IN DIFFERENT PROFESSIONAL FIELDS
Organised by ICN2 Equal Opportunities Committee
By Mariona Soudoupe, Phd in Chemestry, Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona & ICREA Academia Award (2011)
Bio: Mariona Sodupe graduated in Chemistry from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in 1985 and obtained her PhD in Chemistry from the same university in 1990. Later, she completed a postdoctoral stay (1990-92) as a Fulbright scholar at NASA's Ames Research Center (California). In 1992, she returned to the UAB as an Associate Professor. Since 2008, she has been a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry at UAB. She has received the Distinction from the Government of Catalonia for the Promotion of University Research (2001) and the ICREA Academia Award in 2011. She is the co-author of 200 articles in international journals of computational and theoretical chemistry and has supervised 12 PhD theses. Her main research interests focus on the structure and reactivity of bioinorganic systems using computer simulation techniques based on quantum chemistry methods. Recent projects focus on: i) the structure and redox activity of metal cation-amyloid systems in the context of neurodegenerative diseases, ii) the adsorption, reactivity, and self-assembly of biomolecules on silica-based surfaces in the context of prebiotic chemistry, and iii) the reaction mechanisms of processes catalyzed by biocompatible transition metal complexes.
