Three new centers of the UAB Campus awarded as Severo Ochoa Centers of Excellence

by Super User

The Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB), the Centre for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) and the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA) joined ICN2 and the Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE) in the prestigious list of Severo Ochoa Centers placed at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB) Campus.

The Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) has announced the new research centers being awarded Severo Ochoa Excellence Centers. The award aims to identify and support Spanish research centers that are among the world's best in their specialty. It is the highest recognition of centers of excellence in Spain, and it is granted after international scientific committees carry out a rigorous evaluation of project proposals submitted by Spanish research centers. The awarded Centers will receive one million euros per year for the next four years to develop ambitious research programs.

The UAB Campus reinforces its excellence with the recognition of three new centers with this Award: The Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB), the Centre for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) and the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA). They join the previously awarded Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) and the Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE).

In addition to include new centers to the prestigious list of previously awarded centers, the present call is the first one to renew the award for those centers recognised four years ago. The Severo Ochoa Grant is an excellent opportunity to boost the impact of the research performed in the awarded centers.
