Iván Fernández Aguirre wins an INPhINIT ”la Caixa” doctoral fellowship

The winners of the “la Caixa” fellowshios were announced in a ceremony held on Friday 12 July at CosmoCaixa Barcelona. Iván Fernández Aguirre develops his PhD studies performing research on 2D new materials (as Graphene and Topological Insulators) at the ICN2 Physics and Engineering of Nanodevices Group, led by ICREA Prof. Sergio O. Valenzuela.

”la Caixa” Foundation grants fellowships postgraduate studies in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific area, and fellowships for doctoral and postdoctoral studies in Spain and Portugal. On Friday 12 July it celebrated a ceremony at CosmoCaixa Barcelona to announce the winners of the last fellowships call. Iván Fernández Aguirre, PhD student at the ICN2 Physics and Engineering of Nanodevices Group, was among the awardees. Thanks to an INPhINIT fellowship, during his Doctorate in Physics at the ICN2 he experimentally researches 2D new materials (as Graphene and Topological Insulators) which have promising and unique electronic properties that could potentially open the door to an exciting and wide range of novel technologies.

The doctoral fellowship programme INPhINIT ”la Caixa” is devoted to attracting talented Early-Stage Researchers—of any nationality—who wish to pursue doctoral studies in Spanish or Portuguese territory. Sponsored by ”la Caixa” Foundation, it is aimed at supporting the best scientific talent and fostering innovative and high-quality research in Spain and Portugal by recruiting outstanding international students and offering them an attractive and competitive environment for conducting research of excellence.
