Researchers of the ICN2 Physics and Engineering of Nanodevices group and of the NanoBiosensors and Byoanalitical Applications group showed Oschmann around and presented him some research developed in our centre’s laboratories.
On November 7, Jacobus M. Oschmann, President of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE), has come to the ICN2 to meet some of our institute’s scientists and visit our facilities. This was one stop of a longer tour of various Spanish laboratories organized for him by SPIE fellow and member of the Board of Directors Marta de la Fuente.
Accompanied by Prof. María Millan, of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, and Andrés Cifuentes, Founder and CEO of ASE Optics, Oschmann was welcomed and guided in the visit by ICREA Prof. Sergio Valenzuela, of the ICN2 Physics and Engineering of Nanodevices group, by Dr Jessica Llop and Dr María Soler, of the NanoBiosensors and Bioanalytical Applications group, led by Prof. Laura Lechuga, and by Dr Jordi Gomis, Dr Emigdio Chávez and Guillermo Arregui, of the Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures group, led by ICREA Prof. Clivia Sotomayor Torres.
Currently retired, Oschmann has worked for long time at Ball Aerospace (USA), covering several key roles, such as those of vice president and general manager of the Civil Space and Technology Business Unit. He is an expert in astronomical telescope design and lasers, is author of many scientific publications and holds two patents. He has served in many important positions at SPIE as well.
Founded in 1955 to advance light-based technologies, SPIE facilitates knowhow exchange and collaboration, as well as continuing education, by sponsoring major technical forums, exhibitions and education programmes across the world. In addition, it publishes the SPIE Digital Library, the world’s largest collection of optics and photonics applied research papers and conference proceedings.
