The ICN2 joins the International Network for Sustainable Nanotechnology

by Àlex Argemí

The ICN2 is now among the academic members of the N4SN consortium of leading organizations in the field of nanotechnology. Its main function is the promotion of nanotechnology advancement and applications as a key mechanism for sustainability to bring positive and impactful solutions to society.

The International Network for Sustainable Nanotechnology is a consortium of leading organizations in the field of nanotechnology, representing institutes, universities, non-profit and governmental agencies. The main function of this young network is the promotion of nanotechnology advancement and applications as a key mechanism for sustainability to bring positive and impactful solutions to society, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

We are proud to announce that the ICN2 is now among the academic members of this international initiative. Convinced that nanoscience and nanotechnology will continue to have significant impact in the coming years, the concept of sustainability is present throughout all areas of the ICN2 institutional strategy, driving our efforts to remain influential at the forefront of this impact: by producing excellent science, proposing innovative solutions to global challenges based on scientific knowledge, and engaging with society in a dialogue about the benefits as well as the ethical and environmental implications of the new technological advances.

We wish to be able to provide collaboration and expert advice to public and private institutions, and to be an actor that facilitates the adoption of the newly generated knowledge by industry, the health sector, and society at large. Joining this network is another solid step in this direction, and an opportunity to share best practices and collaborate with other leading organizations.

The network was launched by five founding members: Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology (WIN), University of Sydney Nano Institute (Sydney Nano), MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and Japan Science & Technology Agency (JST). It is now expanding to cover other jurisdictions and including underrepresented regions. Join us in this initiative to make the impact of nanoscience and nanotechnology more visible and positive!
