The project “New comprehensive and disruptive diagnostic technologies for the fight against bacterial infections and antibiotic resistance”, presented by the ICN2 NanoBiosensors and Bioanalytical Applications Group, won in the category "Best Antibiotic Resistance Research Initiative”.

The Spanish Agency of Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) has announced the granting of the 2021 National Plan Against Antibiotic Resistance (PRAN) Awards to nine projects in the field of the fight against antimicrobial resistance. Among the awardees is the project “New comprehensive and disruptive diagnostic technologies for the fight against bacterial infections and antibiotic resistance”, presented in the category "Best Antibiotic Resistance Research Initiative” by the NanoBiosensors and Bioanalytical Applications Group, led by Prof. Laura Lechuga.

A total of 82 contending projects were evaluated on the basis of the methodology used, the results obtained, the expected continuity, the synergies established and the level of innovation. Each of the winners will receive a cash prize of €4,000 and an official recognition, which will be awarded on November 18, at the “European Day for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics”.

The PRAN Awards were created in 2017, with the aim of recognising and giving visibility to those initiatives considered exemplary and that make an outstanding contribution to the achievement of the goals proposed in the national strategy against antimicrobial resistance.
