by Virginia Greco

The scientific and technical coordination of the initiative will be carried out by the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO).

The Catalan Government has approved an initiative to support and strengthen the existing ecosystem of research, development and innovation in quantum technologies in Catalonia, which will become a technological hub in this field. The Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) has been appointed as the scientific and technical coordinator of the project, jointly promoted by the Department of Research and University and the Department of Digital Policies and Territory of Catalonia.

In addition to the ICFO, Catalonia can count on other relevant players in the field of quantum applications, including the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC-CNS), the Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE), the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of the University of Barcelona (IN2UB), and other research groups at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), among others.

This initiative aims to contribute to the European scientific effort in the area of quantum technologies and to promote the creation and consolidation of new companies on the territory.
